Practical route planning
What drivers need to know before travelling to Visaginas
In its August 2026 reply to LithuaniaLinks, the road service recommended an approach using roads 102, 5349 and 1417. Check current restrictions before using that route, as roadworks and diversions may have changed.
The condition is not the same on every route into Visaginas. Some roads and sections require considerably more caution than others.
Drive according to the actual surface rather than trying to maintain the posted maximum speed. On broken or uneven pavement, slowing down is more important than keeping to an estimated arrival time.

Road 113: repair reports from 2026
On 17 April 2026, the Ministry of Transport announced plans to replace the upper asphalt layer on Road 113 between km 12.527 and km 13.274 during 2026. According to the road service’s reply received by LithuaniaLinks in August, work was underway on this section at that time. Check Eismoinfo before travelling for current restrictions and roadworks.
Rimšė direction
Road 1417: Visaginas-Stašionys-Rimšė
The reply received in August 2026 reported completed joint and pothole repairs on Road 1417. This is dated maintenance reporting, not confirmation of today’s surface condition or a full reconstruction.
Via Lietuva’s July 2026 repair-priority list recorded a pavement-condition index, DBI, of 5.00 for Road 1417, Visaginas-Stašionys-Rimšė, from km 0 to 6.9 and from km 6.9 to 10.267. This was the recorded condition used in the published list. It does not establish the condition after later repairs or mean that the road is closed.
Other approaches
Roads 5348 and 5349
Road 5348 is Visaginas-Užupiai; Road 5349 is Visaginas-Taboras. Both appear in the July 2026 Via Lietuva list. They are separate state-owned roads managed by AB Via Lietuva. Check the road number in your navigation rather than treating them as interchangeable.

Practical precautions
Driving safely on damaged road surfaces
- Reduce speed before reaching a pothole or heavily uneven section.
- Leave more space behind the vehicle in front.
- Avoid sudden steering merely to miss a pothole if doing so would put the vehicle into opposing traffic.
- Be particularly careful in rain, darkness and when standing water can conceal pavement damage.
- Allow extra journey time.
- Check tyre condition and pressure before a long drive.
- Follow temporary speed limits and roadwork instructions.
- Use live road information before departure.
No fixed speed can be labelled safe for every damaged section. Actual conditions determine the appropriate speed.

The August 2026 repair report refers to a road-service reply whose exact date and sender are unconfirmed. That report does not establish current restrictions, repair completion or today’s pavement condition.
A photograph records the condition at the moment it was taken and should not be interpreted as proof that the same defect remains unchanged today.
