Lithuanian is one of the oldest living languages in the world, but you do not need to master it to get by as a visitor. A handful of phrases will be warmly received. Lithuanians genuinely appreciate when foreigners make any effort with their language. Here are the ones that will serve you best.

How do you say hello in Lithuanian?
Labas means hello or hi. For a more polite daytime greeting, use Laba diena.
How do you say thank you in Lithuanian?
Ačiū means thank you. Labai ačiū means thank you very much and works well in restaurants, shops and hotels.
How do you say goodbye?
Viso gero is the standard goodbye. Iki pasimatymo means see you later.
What are the emergency words?
To ask for help, say Pagalba!. The emergency number in Lithuania is 112.
How to read the pronunciation guide: The guide uses simple English sounds. "ay" = as in "say". "ee" = as in "see". "ah" = as in "father". "ch" = as in "church". Lithuanian stress is not always predictable, so use the audio where available. The letter "š" sounds like "sh", "ž" sounds like the "s" in "measure", and "č" sounds like "ch".
