Baltic Locals runs a free guide directory. Register or sign in with a forum account, then open the private guide workspace to describe your services and professional status accurately. An ordinary forum account does not create a public professional profile or a verification badge. Knowing a water or offering a boat or accommodation does not by itself make someone a qualified tourist guide.
The guide registration page explains registration and the guide workspace. Save a private draft and submit it for review when ready; submission does not guarantee publication. Identity and professional qualifications are checked separately, for a stated country and scope. A check does not guarantee service quality, safety or availability.
Describe the service you provide
You do not need to run a large tour company to describe a useful local service. The examples below help distinguish roles; they are not a promise that every activity qualifies for a professional-guide profile. Use the profile category appropriate to your actual work and its legal requirements.
| Type of local provider | Suitable directory description |
|---|---|
| VVTAT-certified tourist guide who also offers fishing or fishing-culture excursions | Certified tourist guide and fishing specialist |
| Fishing instructor or experienced angler offering practical sessions | Fishing instructor or local fishing host, subject to the actual legal and business basis |
| Licensed skipper or boat operator taking recreational anglers | Fishing-boat operator or charter provider |
| Rural homestead with confirmed fishing access, legal boat use or a partner guide | Fishing-friendly accommodation provider |
| Fly-fishing, predator, feeder, winter or family-fishing specialist | Method-specific fishing instructor or guide, with the method and season stated clearly |
| Fishing museum, smokehouse, heritage boat or community educator | Fishing-culture experience provider |
| Photographer or writer with useful local fishing material | Editorial contributor, not automatically a guide |
Please describe the service you actually provide. Knowing a local lake does not by itself make someone a certified tourist guide, and owning a boat does not automatically make it a commercial fishing charter.
A free directory
The directory has no listing, verification, enquiry or commission charges and does not take booking payments. Voluntary support does not purchase approval or visibility; the funding information page does not collect donations.
Payment cannot buy a verification badge or a better position. Eligible approved profiles are ordered by their public display name; country and selected filters narrow the results. This order is not a quality score or a popularity ranking.
The directory will not guarantee bookings, catches or income. Its job is simpler: give travellers enough checked information to decide whether a provider suits their trip and give the provider a fair opportunity to explain the service in their own voice.
Tourist guide, fishing instructor and skipper are not the same role
Lithuania regulates the profession of tourist guide. The State Consumer Rights Protection Authority, known as VVTAT, issues guide certificates and publishes tourism-service-provider information. Its current certificate process refers to legal residence in Lithuania, higher education, at least 250 academic hours of specified guide training and a practical excursion exam.
The national License Information System also stores issued licence information. If a directory applicant describes himself or herself as a certified tourist guide, that status should be matched to the VVTAT or national licence record.
Some fishing services may be provided under a different role, such as fishing instruction, boat operation, accommodation or outdoor recreation. The directory should label that role accurately rather than inventing a universal “certified fishing guide” status that Lithuania does not publish.
Where a service includes a boat, commercial transport, accommodation, food, equipment hire or access to private water, the documents and conditions relevant to that activity must be checked separately. A tourist guide certificate does not replace vessel, business, insurance, food or accommodation requirements.
What a useful fishing-guide profile should contain
Visitors do not need exaggerated claims. They need practical answers.
Identity and contact
- Full public name or registered business name.
- Town, region and ordinary working area.
- Public telephone, email or approved enquiry method.
- Languages available for booking, the fishing session and the safety briefing.
- Business or self-employment information appropriate to the service.
Fishing experience
- Exact type of fishing offered: shore, boat, river, lake, sea, fly, feeder, predator, smelt, winter or beginner instruction.
- Waters or regions normally used, without publishing sensitive spawning or conservation locations.
- Months in which the service normally operates.
- Typical session length and maximum group size.
- Whether the experience is catch-and-release, allows lawful retention, or changes by species and season.
- Whether beginners, children or experienced anglers are the intended clients.
What is included
- Rods, reels, lures, bait and specialist equipment.
- Lifejackets and their available sizes.
- Winter spikes, flotation and rescue equipment where relevant.
- Permit assistance and who completes any catch reporting.
- Boat, engine, fuel and skipper.
- Station, hotel or airport collection, including the actual collection area.
- Food, hot drinks, fish cleaning or cooking only where legally and practically available.
Price and booking terms
- Price per person, group, boat, hour or day.
- Deposit and accepted payment methods.
- What is charged separately.
- Cancellation, refund and weather policy.
- What happens when the planned species closes, a river rises, wind stops the boat or winter ice becomes unsafe.
Accessibility
Please describe the experience rather than using a vague “accessible” label. State the walking distance, terrain, steps, boat-entry method, toilet access, seating, lifting required and whether tackle can be adapted for one-handed or reduced-strength use.
This information is valuable for older visitors, families and anglers with disabilities. It also prevents an uncomfortable surprise for the guide and guest on the day.
Understand the checks and service details
Baltic Locals treats identity and professional qualifications as separate checks, with the relevant country, scope and dates. A profile is not a blanket endorsement of every service. Read the check details and ask the provider about the activity you intend to book.
Useful details to establish before booking include:
- identity checked;
- business or self-employment details checked;
- VVTAT tourist-guide record matched;
- official tourism-directory listing matched;
- boat or operator information checked;
- insurance information supplied;
- first-aid or relevant outdoor qualification supplied;
- accommodation registration matched where applicable;
- the date and scope of the profile’s latest checks, rather than an assumed six-month guarantee.
If a claim cannot be verified, it should be omitted or shown as unverified. A profile should be paused when safety, legal identity or serious complaint questions remain unresolved.
What will not be accepted
The directory should not publish:
- guaranteed-catch or guaranteed-trophy claims;
- photographs presented as the guide's catch when their origin is unknown;
- a “certified guide” claim without the relevant record;
- illegal nets, snagging, protected-species retention or other prohibited methods;
- offers to fish closed water or avoid the permit system;
- prices that conceal compulsory fuel, equipment or transfer charges;
- reviews written by the provider or copied without permission;
- precise locations of vulnerable spawning sites, nests or sensitive access points;
- discriminatory or unsafe service conditions.
Local knowledge is valuable because it protects the water as well as helping the visitor. A responsible guide knows when not to fish, when to change species and when weather makes cancellation the only sensible decision.
Photographs and local stories are welcome
The project also needs natural photographs and first-hand information from Lithuanian fishing communities. Useful contributions include:
- guides preparing equipment;
- family or beginner sessions with permission from everyone shown;
- safe boat boarding and lifejacket use;
- winter safety equipment;
- responsible fish handling and release;
- fishing museums, boats, smokehouses and food traditions;
- access and transport information that helps a foreign visitor reach the service.
Every submitted image should include the photographer's name, place, approximate date, caption and permission for publication. Do not send a vulnerable fishing location if publishing it could damage the place.
Privacy and publication before you submit
Applications and drafts in the guide workspace are private. Material changes and each written profile translation require review; an eligible approved version may remain public while a new draft is being reviewed. The account email is not automatically public. Follow the operator’s offline instructions for identity and qualification evidence; never post documents in discussions, resources, public photos or enquiry messages.
Choose public profile details carefully. Do not publish a home address, identity-document number, private telephone number, precise sensitive fishing location or another person’s personal data. Use the current privacy information and guide support for questions about correction, removal and document handling.
Submit photographs only when you own the rights or have the photographer's permission. Obtain consent from identifiable people, and from a parent or guardian for a child. Supply a truthful caption and do not imply that a fish, location or service belongs to the provider when it does not.

Register and submit a profile for review
- Decide which role accurately describes you.
- Gather the public identity, business and qualification information relevant to that role.
- Write a plain description of the fishing experience in Lithuanian, English or Russian.
- List the regions, methods, languages, season and group size.
- Prepare an honest included-equipment and price explanation.
- Write the weather and cancellation policy.
- Select several original photographs with publication permission.
- Open the guide registration page, register or sign in, prepare your private workspace draft and submit it for review. Do not attach identity documents to public posts or enquiry messages.
Do not worry if your English is not perfect. Clear facts in Lithuanian or Russian are more useful than polished advertising that does not explain the service. The profile text can be edited for international visitors after the underlying information is checked.
